Role of the School Council

The School Council has prerogatives similar to those of school councils in France's public schools: it deals with health and safety issues, school rules and regulations, and extracurricular activities. It also votes on school rules and the school calendar.

At the start of the school year, parents elect as many full and deputy parents as there are classes to represent them on the School Council.

Composition of the School Council :

The following are voting members of the School Council:

  • the entire teaching team

  • management

  • parents elected by the parent community

The following are members in an advisory capacity:

  • the Chairman of the Board of Directors or his representative

  • COCAC (Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action) at the French Embassy

  • the National Education Inspector in residence in Mexico City

Each class elects two relay parents (a titular parent and a deputy parent) to maintain communication with teachers and management. The role of these parents is to act as spokespersons for collective organizational issues to be discussed with teachers or the school management. They coordinate the participation of all parents in their class in the year's events, in particular festivals and fields days. They relay information from the management to the parents in their class.
